Realising and rewarding students’ full potential

When teaching and nursing students are supported to stay engaged and graduate with confidence, communities benefit. Schools gain passionate teachers, while hospitals and health services welcome nurses who are ready to care.

Support looks different for everyone. For some Victoria University students, it’s financial aid to cover study essentials or placement costs. For others, it’s meaningful recognition of their academic achievements.

Chelsea, a recent Bachelor of Paramedicine graduate, was facing multiple challenges that led her to apply for the VU Thrive Grant. Studying full-time made it difficult to work, and the demands of her placement added further financial strain.

‘I wouldn’t have been able to get my uniform to attend clinical placements that were quite far away,’ Chelsea explained. ‘I probably wouldn’t have been able to attend those placements at all, which would have delayed my degree and added even more stress.’

Receiving the VU Thrive Grant was a turning point in Chelsea’s study journey.

‘It meant I could step back from working so much and focus on my studies. I didn’t have to worry about how I’d afford my next meal or my placement costs. It allowed me to keep going.’

At Bank First, we understand the work that goes into producing exceptional academic results. That’s why, through Victoria University’s Outstanding Student Awards, we celebrate excellence in education and nursing students.

‘I am currently on placement, and this award has inspired me to keep pushing. It motivates me to become the greatest teacher I can be. My aim is to be a passionate and thoughtful educator that can inspire my students to always do their best,’ said Xristos.

‘I’m now working full time as a primary school teacher. This award has been instrumental in helping me get started in my new career. I am very grateful for the recognition,’ said Camille.

Outstanding Student Award winner Kumi’s goal is to make a difference in the lives of children, especially those who need a bit of extra encouragement in the classroom. ‘This award feels like a meaningful recognition of all the effort and dedication I have put into my studies.'

University is about showing up. To class, to placements, for yourself and – for teaching and nursing students – the communities that will one day rely on you. It’s not always easy, especially for students juggling financial pressures with their study obligations.

Through our partnership with Victoria University, we’re proud to support scholarships and awards that help students build strong futures in education and healthcare.
