We will use our TIP funding to purchase Compost Caddies, Modbed Bundles and ... worms!
Compost caddies will be located in every classroom within our school to encourage students and teachers to divert waste from landfill and into compost instead.
For the Prep and Year 1 rooms, we will provide them with Modbeds - easy to use in an easy to access space close to classrooms.
These will double up as space to plant seeds which the junior school students will watch grow - providing learning opportunities outside the classroom.
The worms - well, their new home will be in the Modbeds where students will learn about nature reusing our food waste, breaking it down to create and improve soil.
The benefits are obvious.
1. As a school community we're reducing our reliance on landfill.
2. Students will learn a valuable, life-long lesson ... how to compost.
3. By teaching these important lessons early, not only will students grow up to be conscious of the importance of our environment and looking after it, but they will also take what they've learnt at school home - passing the knowledge upwards to their parents and families.
