Melton Secondary College
TIP funding will be used to create a building project for the schools Year 12 VCAL students.
Students will apply their theoretical understanding of numeracy concepts (measurement, geometry, financial math) to plan and build wooden seats for the school yard.
Not only will it provide much-needed seating to create gathering spaces for students, it will demonstrate the value of numeracy in post-school life and show students how mathematical thinking can be used to solve problems.
What a great way to demonstrate to students that their VCAL certificate serves a valuable purpose, particularly as they move towards adult life outside of the school context.
This project will impart crucial life skills; not just in numeracy and measurement but in critical thinking, communicating, problem solving and working in a team environment - all skills needed as they move into the workforce.
And leaving behind a fabulous legacy once their secondary school journey ends later this year.
